The NS Crafts® 8 Piece Graphite Melting & Casting Kit is made for jewellers, goldsmiths, metalworkers and hobby makers. Graphite crucibles are the go-to choice for melting gold, silver, copper and brass with a torch or a small furnace. High-purity graphite heats quickly and evenly, resists thermal shock and gives a clean pour with less metal sticking to the walls.

What's included

  • 1 x 1 kg graphite crucible – outside 5.5 cm, inside 3.5 cm, height 9 cm, depth 8 cm
  • 1 x 2 kg graphite crucible – outside 6.5 cm, inside 4 cm, height 11 cm, depth 9.5 cm
  • 1 x 1 kg graphite ingot mould – 14.5 x 5.5 x 3 cm, cavity 9 x 4 x 2 cm
  • 1 x 2 kg graphite ingot mould – 15.5 x 7 x 5 cm, cavity 10.5 x 4 x 3 cm
  • 2 x Steel handle rod, 26 cm x 2 cm, for lifting and positioning the ingot mould
  • 1 x 14" stainless steel crucible tongs with 4" jaws and comfortable grip
  • 1 x 16" crucible melting handle – 2.5" (6.35 cm) ring with wing screw, mild steel rod and wooden grip

Key features

  • High-purity graphite for fast, even heating
  • Good resistance to thermal shock
  • Smooth inner wall for a clean pour
  • Molten metal releases cleanly from graphite
  • Steel rod for safe lifting and positioning
  • Long handles keep your hands away from the heat

Getting the best from your graphite crucible

Warm a new crucible gently before the first full melt to drive off any moisture. Keep it dry when stored, avoid dropping it onto hard surfaces and use one crucible per metal type to avoid contamination. A little borax flux helps keep the melt clean and the pour smooth.

Getting the best from your ingot mould

Warm the mould before pouring and lightly oil or smoke the cavity with a sooty flame. Pour steadily, let the metal set, then turn the mould over to release the ingot. A warm, dry mould gives smoother ingots with fewer cold-shut marks.

Ideal for

  • Melting gold, silver, copper and brass
  • Making ingots, scrap recovery and casting
  • Jewellery making, goldsmithing and metalwork
  • Workshops, schools and hobby benches

Always wear heat-resistant gloves and eye protection when melting and pouring metal.
