How to choose a parallel action plier set

A set is the easiest way to get the right jaws for every job at once – and it usually costs less than buying the same pliers one by one. All our sets are NS Crafts® parallel action pliers: the jaws stay parallel as they close, so they grip evenly along their full length instead of pinching at the tip. Wire and sheet are held firmly without slipping, twisting or tool marks.

Nylon, brass or steel jaws?

  • Nylon: the gentlest grip – will not scratch silver, gold, plated or coated wire. Ideal for straightening wire. Replaceable when worn.
  • Brass: softer than steel, so it protects polished surfaces, but firmer than nylon for forming harder metals. Popular with opticians.
  • Smooth steel: the strongest, most precise grip for shaping, bending and holding.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose parallel action pliers over ordinary pliers?
Ordinary pliers close in a V and grip hardest at the tip, which can mark or slip. Parallel jaws meet evenly along their whole length for a firmer, gentler hold.

What does an adjustable screw or stop do?
It lets you set how far the jaws close, so you can grip at the same pressure every time or make repeatable bends without crushing the work.
