An emergency ring cutter for safely removing a ring that is stuck on a swollen or injured finger. It uses a small circular saw blade, 7/8" in diameter, that cuts through soft metal bands such as gold and silver while a guard protects the finger.
The thin base slides easily between the finger and the ring. Once it is in place, turn the side wing handle with gentle pressure and the blade saws through the band, usually in a few minutes. The design follows the classic French ring cutter style, with a knurled, non-slip, nickel-plated handle for a firm grip.
This hand-turned cutter is designed for soft metals such as gold, silver, copper and brass. It is not suitable for stainless steel, titanium or tungsten carbide rings, which need a powered ring cutter. If you are not sure what a ring is made of, or it will not cut easily, stop and seek help from A&E or a jeweller.
A drop of lubricant on the blade helps it cut smoothly and last longer. After cutting, gently spread the ring with pliers to slide it off.
